How this calculation works
Enter measurements above to see the worked calculation.
Start from your slab size or a known volume
Choose Slab dimensions to enter length and width in feet and thickness in inches; the calculator works out the cubic yards for you. A 20 × 12-foot slab 4 inches thick is 2.96 cubic yards, or 3.26 with 10% extra. If a supplier or plan already gave you a volume, choose A volume I already know and enter the net cubic yards instead.
Example: pricing a 20 × 12 patio
At an example $165 per cubic yard for ready-mix, 3.26 cubic yards costs about $538 before delivery and tax. The same volume in 80-lb bags is 147 bags; at an example $7 per bag that is $1,029. These prices are arithmetic examples only; enter your supplier’s actual prices and any short-load fee to compare.
Compare the same volume
The ready-mix subtotal uses the adjusted cubic yards, price per yard, entered material tax and delivery/short-load fee. The bag subtotal uses whole bags, bag price and entered material tax. Delivery for bagged products is excluded. Tax treatment can vary; this tool applies tax to materials only and does not calculate local tax rules.
Keep the scope of the budget clear
These are material estimates. Labor, demolition, excavation, forms, reinforcement, base preparation, finishing and curing supplies are not included. If ready-mix price is blank, you can still compare the volume and bag material subtotal. Obtain a supplier quote before committing to an order.

Make the estimate your own
Measure the actual area, choose your product and update the allowance. Costs use the price you enter. Delivery, tax, labor and preparation are excluded unless this tool has a separate field for them. The result rounds whole packages up; displayed decimal quantities are not supplier order increments.
Before you order
- Check dimensions and units, including depth and openings.
- Confirm the selected product’s coverage, yield or density.
- Ask your supplier about package sizes, minimum orders and delivery access.
- Keep a copy of your measurements with your material plan.
