An area estimate, not a tile layout

Tile area is tile length × tile width ÷ 144 when tile dimensions are in inches. This tool estimates from nominal tile area and does not subtract grout joints. Small cuts, pattern repeats and edge pieces depend on your actual layout, so verify the pattern before ordering.

Tiles and boxes are both useful

For a 20 by 12-foot floor with 12 by 12-inch tiles, 10% extra gives 264 tiles. At 10 tiles per box, order 27 boxes, which contain 270 tiles. Grout, adhesive, backer board, waterproofing and movement joints are separate decisions.

Make the estimate your own

Measure the actual area, choose your product and update the allowance. Costs use the price you enter. Delivery, tax, labor and preparation are excluded unless this tool has a separate field for them. The result rounds whole packages up; displayed decimal quantities are not supplier order increments.

Before you order

  • Check dimensions and units, including depth and openings.
  • Confirm the selected product’s coverage, yield or density.
  • Ask your supplier about package sizes, minimum orders and delivery access.
  • Keep a copy of your measurements with your material plan.
